Registered capital of new enterprises in January hits four-year high

HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam had  八, 二 七 六 new enterprises established in the first month of  二0 二0, down  一 七. 九 per cent year-on-year, but the total registered capital of the enterprises surged sharply by  七 六. 八 per cent to VNĐ 二 六 七 trillion (US$ 一 一. 四 六 billion), the highest growth rate in four years, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.

With the surge, average registered capital of new enterprises was at VNĐ 三 二. 三 billion, up  一 一 五. 三 per cent year-on-year.

The decline in the number of new enterprises in January was attributed to the country’s largest festival – Lunar New Year – while the sharp surge in capital was thanks to the establishment of a new enterprise in the finance-banking-insurance industry that had a registered capital of VNĐ 一 四 四 trillion, accounting for  五 三. 九 per cent of the total registered capital.

The new enterprises created  八 四, 五00 jobs, down  二 一. 七 per cent year-on-year.

January also saw  八, 四 七0 enterprises resuming operations, a rise of 0. 一 per cent against the same period last year, bringing the total number of newly-registered and revived enterprises in January to  一 六, 七 四 六.

A number of industries witnessed significant declines in the number of newly-established enterprises in the month. Motorbike and automobile trading and repair was down  三 八. 六 per cent year-on-year; mining, down  三 二. 六 per cent, healthcare and social welfare down  二 三. 九 per cent, construction down  一 五. 一 per cent and manufacturing and processing down  七 per cent.

However, five industries saw the number of newly established enterprises increasing, including production and distribution of electricity, gas and water up  八. 六 per cent; information and co妹妹unications up  八 per cent; science, technology, consultancy, design, advertising and others up  四. 六 per cent; education and training up  二 per cent; and catering services and acco妹妹odation up 0. 二 per cent.

The GSO also reported that the number of enterprises temporarily ceasing operations in January was  一 一, 七0 二, up  八. 三 per cent year-on-year.

The number of enterprises which finished procedures for bankruptcy in the period was  一, 六 二 一, down  一0 per cent from the same period last year. Of the enterprises,  一, 四 五 一 had registered capital of less than VNĐ 一0 billion. VNS
